"Toronto area MP Derek Lee appears
in a recruiting video used by the Church of Scientology
to attract new members in the United States.
[...]
Some critics have denounced Scientology as a brainwashing cult that
harasses its opponents and exploits the vulnerable for financial gain. But
Lee says he supports some of the group's programs and is impressed by its
approach to rehabilitating drug addicts.
[...]
Lee said he first met Scientologists through a coalition of groups lobbying
for more faith-based programming on Canadian television. He occasionally
speaks to Scientology gatherings, including one earlier this year in Toronto,
as part of his advocacy for greater religious
freedom.
[...]
Lee says he hasn't got involved in the Church's attempts to win charitable
status from the Canada Revenue Agency as a religious organization, but he
says he would probably help out if asked."

Program:
Step Four: Life Improvement Courses
A series of Narconon Program life improvement courses are studied to put
the individual back in control of his or her life. [...]
C. The Narconon Program Ups
and Downs in Life Course gives the student
the ability to spot and handle those influences in his environment that
would cause him to lose any gains he has made. [
More...]
He learns the characteristics of the social personality as well as those
of the anti-social
personality so that he can spot the difference and better choose his
friends and associates. Completing this course makes the student less susceptible
to those who would influence him to revert to drugs.
Criminon
Program (US):
How to Deal With
Ups & Downs in Life
How to Handle the Negative Influences in Life
There is some truth in judging someone by the company they keep. It can
easily be seen that those around us do influence our attitudes and behavior,
for better or worse. And it doesn't surprise many to learn that criminals
often consort with criminals and that they promote anti-social activities
and influence others to continue such unethical and illegal conduct.
This section of the Criminon Program deals with establishing the skill
to chart one's own course in life, with honesty and integrity, and to spot
and disassociate from those elements which would tend to lead one astray.
The course teaches the students the characteristics of both anti-social
personalities and social personalities, so that they may recognize both
and know the differences between the two. That way, they can better choose
their friends and associates, and become more aware of their own attitudes
and be made less susceptible to those who would have them revert to crime.
"Not confronting suppression—not handling it—is giving
something of yourself away, like compromising with a thief. Quitting; to
give in to suppression is not being your own person. Knowledge is the most
powerful possession of all and gives anyone the means to deal with and handle
any connection with suppression."

"In my opinion the church has one of the most

The criminal acts of Church of Scientology of Toronto
were insidious attacks on two essential law enforcement agencies in this
province. The integrity and effective functioning of those agencies (the
Ministry of the Attorney General and the Ontario Provincial Police) are
of great importance to good government in this province. The offences threatened
such integrity and effectiveness, and I regard each of them as very serious.
[...]
This conduct represented a deliberate attempt to undermine the effectiveness
of the law enforcement agencies. The acts struck at the integrity of the
public service. This was not simply an intelligence-gathering exercise.
The appellant had planted its agents in these agencies so that they would
be able to anticipate and counter the efforts of these agencies to enforce
the law.

[The Scientology conspirators] challenged and attempted
to undermine the judicial and governmental structure of the United States.
[...] These crimes included: the infiltration and theft of documents from
a number of prominent private, national, and world organizations, law firms,
newspapers, and private citizens; the execution of smear campaigns and baseless
law suits for the sole purpose of destroying private individuals who had
attempted to exercise their First Amendment rights to freedom of expression;
the framing of private citizens who had been critical of Scientology, including
the forging of documents which led to the indictment of at least one innocent
person; and violation of the civil rights of prominent private citizens
and public officials.

(3) Make enough threat or clamor to cause the enemy to quail, (4) Don't
try to get any money out of it, (5) Make every attack by us also sell Scientology
and (6) Win. If attacked on some vulnerable point by anyone or anything
or any organization, always find or manufacture enough threat against them
to cause them to sue for peace. Peace is bought with an exchange of advantage,
so make the advantage and then settle. Don't ever defend. Always attack.
Don't ever do nothing. Unexpected attacks in the rear of the enemy's front
ranks work best.
[...]
The goal of the Department is to bring the government and hostile philosophies
or societies into a state of complete compliance with the goals of Scientology.
This is done by high level ability to control and in its absence by low
level ability to overwhelm. Introvert such agencies. Control such agencies.
Scientology is the only game on Earth where everybody wins. There is no
overt in bringing good order.
